Tanker Gets Struck by Projectile Near Dubai

(MENAFN) The UK Office of Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Monday that a tanker was struck by an unidentified projectile 31 nautical miles northwest of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

According to UKMTO, the tanker’s security officer indicated that the projectile hit the vessel’s starboard side, resulting in a fire onboard. “The crew are accounted for and safe. No environmental impact has been reported,” the statement added.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

The attack occurs amid heightened regional tensions following a major air offensive by the US and Israel on Iran on February 28, which has reportedly killed over 1,340 people, including the country’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran has carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces.
