Additional U.S. Refueling Aircraft Hit at Saudi Military Base

(MENAFN) Five United States Air Force aerial refueling aircraft were struck and sustained damage while stationed on the ground at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday.

Referring to two American officials, the publication stated that the tanker planes were impaired but not completely destroyed and are currently undergoing repairs. The report did not mention any casualties related to the incident.

According to sources, the refueling aircraft were struck during a recent Iranian missile assault targeting the installation.

However, U.S. Central Command declined to provide comment, the outlet added.

The episode raises the total number of U.S. Air Force refueling aircraft damaged or destroyed to at least seven during the ongoing confrontation with Iran that the United States and Israel initiated on Feb. 28.

The account comes after Thursday’s collision involving two Air Force KC-135 tanker planes, an accident that resulted in one aircraft crashing. The Pentagon confirmed Friday that all six crew members on board lost their lives.

Iran has been striking U.S. forces and military assets at bases throughout the region in retaliation for "Operation Epic Fury." A U.S. service member died after suffering severe injuries during an assault on the Saudi installation on March 1.
