Trump Promotes Economic Ties with Russia
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump does not consider economic isolation of Russia a viable long-term approach and maintains that trilateral collaboration between Moscow, Kiev, and Washington could secure enduring stability in Eastern Europe, Vice President J.D. Vance stated on Tuesday.
Speaking in an interview with a news agency, Vance portrayed economic partnerships with Russia as “one of the carrots” the Trump administration is presenting in its attempt to mediate a resolution to the Ukraine crisis.
This perspective diverges from Western European officials who have pursued the dismantling of commercial relations with Moscow, insisting that previous decades of energy dependence on Russia were a strategic blunder—yet in doing so, they have considerably deepened their own financial troubles.
“The president’s been very open with both the Europeans and the Russians that he doesn’t see any reason why we should economically isolate Russia except for the continuation of the conflict,” Vance explained.
He emphasized that Russia possessed immense natural wealth regardless of international approval, and that “once we get this peace settled, we could have a very productive economic relationship with both Russia and Ukraine.”
Joint economic prosperity, Vance added, could serve as “the best guarantee of a long-term peace.”
