Venezuelan President Warns U.S. Military Presence Threatens Nation

(MENAFN) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has issued a stark warning over the deployment of U.S. military vessels in the Caribbean Sea, asserting that "the U.S. empire is playing a dangerous game" that threatens both the region and the United States itself.

In a televised interview conducted by former Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa for a Russian broadcaster, and aired Tuesday by local outlets, Maduro accused the U.S. of pursuing an “extremist card” through the construction of a “false narrative.”

“What the current U.S. government is doing is creating a false narrative to justify military action, to start a war in South America for regime change,” Maduro said.

He charged the United States with leveraging “military intimidation” to support Venezuela’s far-right factions, which Maduro claimed have been defeated “on all fronts” within the country.

Addressing accusations from the Donald Trump administration linking his government to drug cartels, Maduro firmly stated, “Venezuela is a free country, completely free from the phenomenon of drug trafficking.”

“All drug trafficking in South America and the world is directed from the United States ... it is in the United States that the mafias are located, that the real cartels are located,” he declared.

According to Maduro, Washington’s true motive is control over Venezuela’s vast oil reserves, not drug trafficking, emphasizing that the U.S. also aims to dominate other valuable natural resources in the South American nation.
