Face-mask mandates get enforced in two Ukrainian hospital
(MENAFN) Hospitals in two Ukrainian regions have reinstated mask requirements due to a noticeable uptick in Covid-19 infections.
According to reports, the head of the regional council in Rovno announced through social media that a leading hospital in the area has already begun enforcing the rule. He also noted that other healthcare institutions in the western region may soon follow. “Since the beginning of August, almost half a thousand cases of the disease have been officially confirmed in the region,” Karaush announced.
Reports also indicated that medical facilities in Odessa Region have implemented similar measures, with some hospitals reportedly restricting visits in addition to mandating masks.
Media data suggest that Kiev has recorded 1,121 confirmed infections within the past week alone.
Health authorities recently revealed that the newly identified ‘Nimbus’ and ‘Stratus’ strains of the Omicron variant have appeared in Ukraine. These strains have been linked to an increase in cases across several countries, including the US and the UK.
During the height of the global pandemic in 2020 and 2021, many governments worldwide imposed strict mask mandates and rolled out extensive vaccination campaigns, with some even requiring the shots by law. Over time, as the virus appeared to become less severe, most of these stringent rules were gradually lifted.
