Musk Steps Back from Launching Third Political Party
(MENAFN) Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk appears to be gradually pulling away from his earlier commitment to establish a third political party, according to a report published Tuesday by a news agency, which cited individuals familiar with the situation.
As the head of Tesla and SpaceX, Musk had taken on a significant role in American politics starting last year, mostly by providing financial support and collaborating with US President Donald Trump.
In July, Musk revealed plans to create the America Party to compete with the dominant US political entities—the Democrats and the Republicans.
However, insiders now say Musk is aiming to avoid "alienating powerful Republicans" and is turning his attention back to his business ventures rather than political activism.
The article notes that Musk’s business operations began to suffer as he became more immersed in the political arena.
Advisers reportedly encouraged him to distance himself from Washington, D.C., and refocus on his companies.
Despite this, Musk is still working to preserve his connection with Vice President JD Vance, an emerging leader in Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement.
Musk has admitted privately that proceeding with a new political party could damage that association.
As reported by the news agency, Musk has even explored the possibility of financially backing Vance in a potential 2028 presidential bid.
This would follow his estimated $300 million contributions in support of Trump and the Republican Party during the 2024 election cycle.
Although the US Constitution prohibits Trump from seeking a third presidential term, he has publicly speculated about ways to possibly bypass that restriction.
