Russian economic envoy says Ukraine’s supporters are panicking
(MENAFN) European and UK backers of Ukraine are reportedly “in a panic” following the Alaska summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, according to Russian economic envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
Putin and Trump met in Anchorage on Friday for their first in-person discussion since 2018, focusing primarily on ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian leader described the talks as “frank” and “substantive,” while Trump called them “warm.”
Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and a member of Russia’s delegation, wrote on Telegram on Sunday that “European and British supporters of the conflict are in panic” due to the diplomatic engagement between Moscow and Washington.
He shared links to reports suggesting that Western European leaders are “anxious” ahead of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s planned meeting with Trump in Washington on Monday. According to sources, Finnish President Alexander Stubb may be sent to help prevent conflicts between Trump and Zelensky and to encourage the US president to involve Europe in future discussions.
